Company president attends national mold course
SteamMaster president Gary Gilman was part of the annual Indoor
Air Quality Association meeting and exposition in Orlando, Fla.
The meeting included more than 20 hours of education in mold testing,
remediation and the effects of fungi on indoor air quality.
Rep. John Conyers Jr. was the keynote speaker. Conyers sponsored
the Toxic Mold Safety and the Protection Act of 2003. Dr. Simone
Summers described the health effects that toxic mold, which he discovered
in his recently purchased home, has had on their family’s
health, as well as the effect on her health and inability to obtain
adequate insurance coverage.
Panel discussions dealt with performing mold testing, analysis,
remediation, and clearance sampling. Discussions also covered how
to deal with insurance companies, homeowner and contractor mold
exclusions and coverage caps, and the need to regularly clean carpet
upholstery and draperies to remove contaminants such as dust, dust
mites, settled spores and pollen that are known to trigger allergy
related illnesses
